A Provincial Growth Fund (PGF) grant of $90,000 will help the Vinegar Hill community water storage scheme take its next steps, Head of the Provincial Development Unit Robert Pigou has announced.

The project is a collaboration between the Manawatū District Council, Horizons District Council and local farmers with support from the Ministry for Primary Industries.

“This project will provide secure access to water for farmers which will support better stock production, and will also provide environmental benefits as it will keep stock away from streams and rivers in the area,” Robert Pigou says.

The PGF investment will help pay for work to come up with the best design for the facility, manage the resource consent requirements, confirm the environmental benefits, confirm the access to water for the facility and develop governance and ongoing management of the project once it moves into the construction phase.

“This project links well with the PGF’s water storage investment principles and our investment statement on water as well as with the Manawatū Whanganui Regional Economic Action Plan – Accelerate 25.”
