More than $4.3m to boost rangatahi success

Seven community programmes are receiving more than $4.3 million funding boost from the government’s He Poutama Rangatahi initiative.
An estimated 478 young people who are not in education, employment or training and who are most at risk of long-term unemployment will be targeted by programmes in Waikato, Hawke’s Bay, Tairāwhiti, Manawatū-Whanganui and Kāpiti.

With a focus on supporting Māori, Pasifika and those impacted by COVID-19, the programmes provide intensive, individualised pastoral support and training to help rangatahi overcome barriers to employment.
Funding was announced for the following programmes in December 2020:
Waikato
- Te Ara Rangatahi Charitable Trust (Angitu) – $639,000
Hawke’s Bay
- Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga Trust (Learners 2 Earners – Takatū Youth Mentoring Programme) – $390,000
- The Limery (Te Rau Haumako) - $200,000
Tairāwhiti
- Aotearoa Social Enterprise Trust (ASET Poutama Rangatahi) – $800,500
Manawatū-Whanganui
- Nga Hau E Wha Maara Kai Charitable Trust (Tiaho Mai) – $512,800
- Muaūpoko Tribal Authority (Tō Ake Ara Tātou) – $764,700
Kāpiti
- Kāpiti Coast District Council (Te Hunga Rangatahi) – $995,000
