Canterbury / Waitaha

The majestic Southern Alps tower over the region that lies at the heart of New Zealand's South Island Te Wai Pounamu.

Stretching from Kaikōura to Waimate, Canterbury’s national parks, rolling rivers and alluvial plains offer both beauty for tourism ventures and productive land and sea for agriculture, forestry and fishing.

Manufacturing and construction are also important to the local economy, providing Canterbury with a strong platform on which to build a diverse economy for long-term economic prosperity.

Canterbury leaders have outlined their strategy for the region’s future in the Plan for Canterbury released in September 2020.
