Tairāwhiti is the first place in the world to see the sun and is well known for its successful horticulture, forestry, tourism, and agriculture industries.
It also has big plans for the future.
Since the establishment of the Provincial Growth Fund, Tairāwhiti has been identified as a priority for investment and support, particularly for local industry and improving infrastructure resilience.
The Tairāwhiti Economic Action Plan / Te Huarahi Hei Whai Oranga, lays out the region's plans for economic growth, with 11 local iwi contributing to the Tairāwhiti Maori Economic Report which identifies ways to support and enhance the region’s Māori economy.
